Frequently Asked Questions
Do I really need a website?
For personal reasons, it most likely is not an actual need, however most people find one useful and/or fun to be able to share information with family in friends who may be located in different parts of the world. For business reasons, we at Connexus believe that it is a requirement of today's business. It is as essential as having a business card or telephone number. Your particular business may not need full-scale retail capabilities, but it definitely needs a presence due to the ever-increasing numbers of consumers using the internet for information and purchases.
What benefits can I expect from having a website?
Advertising - your website is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and does not take a vacation or require sick days! It is a very cost effective method of getting out the information about your products or services - think about how much it costs to run newspaper, phonebook, radio and television advertisements. It is also worldwide, greatly increasing your company's exposure and potential market audience.
Customer support - No longer will you have to answer the same questions over and over again; just put a simple to understand FAQ (frequently asked questions) page up on your site, and VOILA! Instant gratification for your potential customer! You can also put product information in downloadable files for your customers, and/or provide them with a way to contact your company with questions/comments where they do not have to feel pressure by talking to a person live.
Do I need to know anything special (e.g. Internet savvy) to create my site?
Absolutely not. By filling out our detailed project profile, we get a good grasp on what your project requirements are, and we will contact you to schedule a follow-up meeting to discuss and clarify your requests. At the completion of your website or project, depending upon maintenance requirements, we will completely assure you with the knowledge of how to work within your new enterprise.
Who will see my site?
Everyone who has access to a computer - and that is a huge market! There all types of people who are now using the Internet for information search and product/service purchases. Senior citizens are even surfing the Net, as technology strives to become more user-friendly for the average consumer. With high-speed Internet access becoming increasing affordable, the Internet is becoming more and more popular in the home environment. And for the current population without access at home, they often do have access through their work computers.
How will people find my site?
People will find your site using a variety of methods. The Internet has what are called search engines, where people will type in search words to find information on a subject, product or service that they want. A popular one right now that you may have heard of is called Google. There are many more similar to it. There are also Yellow pages and White pages that are online - these will list your business same as if you were to have them listed in the paper versions you have already in your home and/or business. There are specialty websites you can find where you can list your product or service; sometimes for a reasonable fee or reciprocal linking. Reciprocal linking simply means that you place a link on your site to another site, thereby helping promote each others' business. For example, you sell pet-related products, and another site sells pets - you benefit each other by becoming partners because your customers are inter-related. Another way that people will find your site is when you promote it - put it on your business cards, run a newspaper ad, post it in your local community bulletin boards, use a license plate frame on your vehicle or even a bumper sticker or window decal. It should be on all your marketing media that you would normally distribute to current and potential customers. It is as important in your everyday business as providing your phone number and business card.
Will you help me promote my website?
Definitely. We will submit your website to the top twenty search engines that are most commonly used. We can also submit for it to be listed in a web directory such as Yahoo.
What is a domain name?
A domain name is the address for your website. Every website has a unique address, just like a mailing address for a business or residence. For business purposes, a domain name is highly recommended. If you were making a purchase online, would you buy from a website that had a long, undecipherable website address? For personal purposes, it may not be quite as necessary, but may prove to be helpful for friends & family to remember. In either situation, domain names are fairly inexpensive and can be registered for under twenty dollars a year, and sometimes more inexpensively if you have it registered for several years at a time.
If I have one, can I use my existing domain name?
Yes, this is perfectly acceptable and easy to do; we can help you register a new domain name, or take care of transferring your existing domain to your new website.
